Most people flying into Dhaka have a night or two before or after their tour. Here's what's actually worth your time.
Kacchi biryani is the dish to seek out - slow-cooked mutton and rice, layered and steamed together rather than mixed. It's rich, it's a proper sit-down meal, and it's not something you'll easily find outside Bangladesh done the same way.
Street food in Old Dhaka is where a lot of the real character is - but go with a local if you can, or stick to stalls with visible turnover and a line of regulars. That's true anywhere, but especially true here.
Fuchka (a spicier, tangier cousin of pani puri) is everywhere and worth trying at least once from a busy stall - it's a genuinely different flavor profile than what you'll find elsewhere in South Asia.
If you're on our Old Dhaka Discovery tour, food is naturally part of the walk - Momin knows which stalls are worth stopping at along the route.
